Regular Meeting
May 25, 2011
6:00 PM. City Hall
Chairman Marc Kroetch opened the meeting for Parks & Recreation at 6:00 pm. Present were members Mike Clary, Shelly Nave, Terry Devore, Kevin Miller, Michelle Kelly and Kim Harlow. Activities Director, Heather Riney and resident Althea Sondahl were also present.
Kevin Miller motioned to accept minutes from March with a second from Shelly and a vote of aye by all. Aprils meeting was cancelled due to lack of a quorum.
Marc stressed the importance of sticking to the agenda and staying on track during meetings.
Rec Center update-windows, doors, are ready to be put in. The coal chute is gone and the hole is filled. Concrete is ready to be poured. We now have 2 paddle boats, 2 canoes and 2 kayaks. Cabella’s donated 20 fishing rods & reels and $250 worth of gift cards.
Volunteer Park update-Kevin Miller motioned to approve moving forward with “Phase 1” of the park project. Phase 1 is completing one additional baseball field including fencing. Michelle Kelly seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken with members Marc, Kevin, Kim, Michelle, Mike, Shelly and Terry all voting aye.
Salishan Park update-Michelle Kelly proposed the implementation of a walking path including exercise stations along the way. Kevin Miller suggested at this time to at least work on getting more of the area cleared and possibly seeded and put in a couple picnic tables and a BBQ grill.
The board discussed some changes in the Big Park. We’d like to add some new playground equipment and eventually, take out the existing skate park and build a new one at the future Blackwell Park. Water park ideas are also being discussed as an idea for the Big City Park.
Heather briefed the board on her summer activities schedule.
Heather Riney was approached about planning something for the kids to do during Bluz Fest. Kevin Miller made a motion not to plan for a “kid friendly” event to take place during Bluz Fest. Mike Clary seconded the motion with a vote of aye by all.
The Board decided to push out the plan for a Fishing Derby and hold it over Labor Day, on Saturday, September 3rd.
Kevin Miller motioned not to adopt the Tobacco Free Policy for our City Parks. Mike Clary seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken with members Marc, Kevin, Kim, Michelle, Mike and Shelly voting aye and Terry voting nay.

Marc motioned to close the meeting at 8:00 with a second from Kevin and a vote of aye by all.
